Well there we have it folks - another week, another bit of history made! Aughintober has participated in it's first ever major competition in Grade 2!
Held in Stormount, Belfast - which is to be the home of the European Championships for the next three years, the Pipe Band Fraternity got the chance to trod on Northern Ireland's home of International Cricket - hallowed turf which the likes of Freddy Flintoff and the rest of the English Toff's once played on. But a Gentleman's game Pipe Band's is not - Grit and Determination is key, and was shown on barrow-fulls, especially when it starts pouring down ten minutes before you're due to be on the line!
But alas, we made it, we played - and then we replaced the Bass Drummer for the Finale = and yes Turks, I KNOW I'm not qualified to hit it, but I will anyway!
This week the band goes full-tilt in preparation for the World Championships, which is held on Glasgow Green on the 14th of August. The band will have to be at it's best in order to qualify, so fingers crossed! This Saturday (7th) it's Newcastle for the Ulster Championships, and then off to Ruth's Birthday BBQ!
